“Telehouse Beijing BDA is a co-location facility located in Beijing China’s Economic Technological Development Area (BDA). We designed and built our data center to meet the highest international specifications and we offer carrier neutral choice connectivity. Our data centers are deployed globally by KDDI, a mobile and fixed-line communication provider, with 44 locations in 23 cities worldwide and with an annual operating revenue of 3,550 billion yen. Our customers are in the finance, banking, and securities sectors, and for them downtime is not an option. Our customers expect top reliability and availability from our data centers,” says Shinji Miyazawa, President, Telehouse Beijing BDA Co., Ltd.

“We are focusing on our expansion in China, which is forecasted to become the largest IT services market in the Asia Pacific region. With established data centers in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, we have now launched an ambitious second project in Beijing’s BDA, a booming Beijing Economic Development zone, attracting many Fortune 500 companies.

Top priorities: Availability, energy efficiency, reliability
“Our goal was to build a (25,000m²) world-class data center, embracing the same strict standards we established in our German, Japanese, and French data centers. Energy efficiency, availability, and reliability are at the top of our requirements list for our new 3,000-rack data center. In order to achieve this international standard in Beijing, we needed not only a leader in data center planning and construction, but also in energy conservation. We were looking for a total solution provider for the project to ensure that we could provide high-quality, high-end data services with an infrastructure that was strictly in line with our global standard; the highest standards in energy efficiency, HVAC, and safety/security facilities.

One total solution represents economies of scale benefits

“To this end, we chose to work with Schneider Electric™. Schneider Electric was able to provide this total solution, with its choice of architectures, modular/scalable solutions that allow for quicker deployment and additional capacity, and its Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software StruxureWare™, along with security and access control. As co-location providers we need this kind of integrated solution — instead of spending our time integrating systems ourselves, we have one provider to do it for us. We can focus on our customers, manage our services, and secure profitability trusting that the integration of our data center systems is taken care of. With its full lifecycle solutions and services — from design, to build, to operate — Schneider Electric is able to provide us with the most solid guarantee for success for our data center project.

Monitor energy use, lower PUE
“The Schneider Electric integrated solution included cooling, security and surveillance, UPS, power distribution sub-system, and the Schneider Electric DCIM software, StruxureWare. StruxureWare energy management and monitoring software gives us better visibility to energy use across our operation, allowing us to make more informed business decisions. With the Schneider Electric suite of products, solutions, services, and technology, we are set to achieve energy savings up to 25% and lower PUE to reach the highest efficiency level on the Chinese mainland.

Business wise, future driven™ partnership
“Schneider Electric experts partnered with us from the beginning, even before the design phase of the project. They were concerned with how we could best succeed in achieving our business goals; to scale investment, optimize operating expenses. Their experts performed a detailed business analysis to provide us with six different design and implementation scenarios based on our requirements: energy efficiency, reliability and availability, as well as sustainability and maintenance, and return on investment.

“We were then able to consider how we could best minimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), keeping our data center an efficient one in terms of right-sizing and energy management, now and in the future.”
